Orientation Day for Lauren

So today was a two hour visit at school for all first graders (still so hard to believe that my baby is a first grader...). While the parents were bored to tears for this amount of time in an auditorium reviewing the difference of an Episcopal education (far as I can tell, chapel seems to be the only difference), appropriate arrival and departure procedures (don't drop them off, throw them out the window, or otherwise deliver them before the arrival time -- not sure why this needed to be verbalized), uniform and jewelry specificity (anything with belt loops needs the approved belt, only stud earrings for girls -- lucky I haven't had to cross this bridge yet), and fundamentals of the Reading Lab (this was actually not boring at all), the kids were in their classroom familirizing themselves with their teacher and their classmates, many of them new.

Here is Lauren at her new desk and with our new to the school buddy family, Jake and Katie Lawson. Lauren gets along great with these kids, especially Katie -- and Lauren sometimes has a hard time finding other girls who can hang with her. But Katie is great, she is just as active and athletic as Lauren (their Dad was a pro baseball player, these kids are huge and actually 6 months younger than Lauren, who is generally much taller than other girls her age). As I was snapping the photo, their Mom said, "something tells me this team is going to be together for a long time." And I believe it will.
