I am not an American apologist. Really. I believe the Chinese gymnasts were better and cleaner last night. However....there is absolutely no way these girls are all 16. Four of them aren't even five feet tall, and one of them is only four feet, six inches!!! Ridiculous! I don't care what their yank-kids-away-from-their-families-at-the-age-of-three-to-cultivate-them-into-future-gold-medal-winning-athletes-government-sponsored-passports say. Clearly they thought they would load them down with blue eyeshadow, make them look like streetwalkers, and we would all be fooled. I am not fooled. I am apalled. The rules should be followed. Whether it would have changed anything is anyone's guess. But there is an argument to be made that younger girls don't feel the pressure as acutely.
