A Return to Tennis

So last week I got the clear to start playing tennis again. Just 15 minutes a day, heavy on the ground strokes and light on the scrambling. And I was thrilled! So on Tuesday, after some heavy stretching and heart palpitations, I played for 30 minutes (more than was recommended, but it felt good, so I went with it) with my new tennis pro, Royce Deppe. Royce played on the pro tour for about 10 years, was ranked as high as 16 in the world, played at Center Court Wimbledon, beat Pete Sampras back in the day, and is an excellent instructor.

I can't tell you how awesome it felt to be out in the beautiful weather, hitting a tennis ball again. I had missed it terribly. So I followed up Tuesday with another Royce lesson on Wednesday and a lesson with Jay and his pro on Thursday night (too much running for my calf just yet, so I sat out about 3/4 of the way through while Jay scrambed around and displayed his much improved form). I feel great.

And now that the kids are over their bout with the flu which hung over our house for at least a month, they are playing tennis again as well. Here are photos of Jon Owen from his Thursday lesson (check out that form!!!) and Lauren from her Friday lesson, with her best buds, Jake and Katie Lawson, who are also now playing at TBar.

We are officially a tennis family!
