So. LaCosta. Last year Jay and I were supposed to go to LaCosta for EPC (stands for exceptional producers council or something like that -- anyway, it's an honor in his company to be asked to go, spouses only, 4 or 5 pampering days, truly a great thing). But at the last minute, Lauren got sick and since we were leaving them with the combination of Cristina and a newish babysitter and I already wasn't entirely comfortable, I decided that I'd better stay behind.
So when we were trying to decide where to stay for the pampering portion of the trip, we liked everything that LaCosta offered and decided to try it again. And WOW!!! We are so glad we did. Words can't describe how perfect it was for our family -- over 400 acres of gorgeous grounds, everything is white stucco and red roofs and beautiful, fragrant plantings as far as the eye can see. There's golf and tennis and a yoga center (don't do yoga, but it looked awesome) and a spa (again, not a spa girl, but it looked amazing) and great shopping and great restaurants and an amazing pool complex and best of all -- the most awesome kids camp called Kidtopia.
For two of the mornings that we were there, we dropped all 3 kids at Kidtopia -- a huge kids wonderland for all ages -- for 4 hours (2 hours for Hudson). There they played the Wii and the Nintendo DS and went on treasure hunts and made crafts and Hudson scooted around an indoor track in a little foot-pedal car. They loved it. They didn't want to leave it. And while they were having a blast with other kids their age, Jay golfed and I played in some tennis clinics. It was heavenly.
In the afternoons we'd hang out at the huge, 3 pool complex, one for each level of swimmer and all completely gated so that no one could get in or out if they weren't supposed to. We were waited on hand and foot, snacked and had ice cream and treats, and generally just enjoyed being together.
So here are some photos. I actually didn't take many. We were too busy enjoying ourselves.
On our way to dinner one night. Notice the matching outfits that Lauren insisted we purchase at the "Pinkalicious" Lily Pulitzer boutique on the grounds.
Jon Owen eating one of the hugest ice cream treats ever!
This was the littlest pool on the grounds -- it was zero entry, had a sandy beachy area at one end, and was shallow enough that Hudson just got in and out and swam around with his life jacket by himself. Isn't he a big boy?!?
Here we are poolside, tired and cozy from an afternoon in the sun.
Lauren and the ubiquitous ice cream treat.
Coming up the stairs from the medium size water slide.
Our wooded backyard for the duration of this trip. Lauren and Jon Owen ate breakfast out there every morning and looked for wildlife. They were rewarded with a bunny on one morning!
The entrance to Kidtopia. We know it well.
