So on Saturday I was playing tennis with my friend Jen, and while positioning for an overhead, I felt (and heard) a pop in my calf. I quickly hopped off the court, unable to walk, propped it up with ice, and thought, "OH SHIT..." The tennis pro told me it could be torn, and suggested I get to the ER, which I did, and they confirmed a tear.
What I now know after a visit to the orthopedic surgeon, my dreamy sports chiropractor, and a million google articles about torn calves, is that it's a fairly serious injury that will take months to heal. For now I have a boot and crutches, and am unable to bear weight on the offending leg. I'm just hoping to be walking, even if it's with a severe limp, in a few weeks. For sure I won't be playing tennis for at least 2 months, probably more.
Sigh. The worst part was when I was told this was a common injury "among middle aged women with muscles in various stages of atrophy." Ouch.
