Earlier in the day, the kids and I baked and decorated oodles of Christmas cookies. I have to say, this year produced a very successful effort! The key is to make the dough, roll it between parchment paper, and refrigerate it for at least an hour before you start cutting out the cookies. No messy flour on the counter or in the dough to keep it from being sticky, no broken cookies, no burnt cookies from varying thicknesses. WE ROCKED! We even got a few reindeer made and decorated, which in years past have never made it past the rolling out phase.
In any case. The kids and I had a ball decorating them, and they were quite pretty. So pretty, in fact, that we put them on plates and gave a specially-chosen selection to each of our neighbors. And of course, the kids each got to choose a specially made cookie for Santa. Lauren chose a beautiful angel that she decorated, and Jon Owen chose his faceless Santa Claus. Red hat, white beard, no face. Totally funny.
