Lauren's Christmas Pageant

So last Thursday was Lauren's annual Christmas pageant at school, where they combine all 5 first grade classes and sing Christmas hymns learned in music class. It's very sweet, the kids enter with prayer hands and collars (red for the girls, green for the boys), squeeze into the front of the church, and sing their little hearts out. I always cry -- there's nothing sweeter than young kids singing, and Christmas carols always pull at my heartstrings.

Lauren -- in typical Lauren fashion -- knows all the words, sings at the top of her lungs, and enjoys performing immensely. What always surprises me is how many parents notice her doing so. There are roughly 80 kids up there, they're all just standing there singing the same songs with no solos and nothing differentiating one from the other, and truth be told, unless someone falls down or waves their hands in the air, I don't notice. But Lauren has that thing, that something that makes people watch her.

Everyone tells me I should get her into drama, that she's a natural. I just don't know...how do I encourage her talent without becoming "that Mom" putting her on a path to become the next Miley Cyrus?
