When I started to play tennis (it will be 2 years in September, not counting the 3 months I had to take off when I tore my calf), I was content to participate in drills and lessons, working on proper stroke mechanics and doubles play strategy. But as my game progressed, my fabulous pro, Royce, insisted that I begin team tennis play -- he said it was the only way to get better. So in the spring, I formed a USTA (US Tennis Association) team, and asked all my favorite TBarM girls to play on it. I asked my two favorite pros to coach it. And off we went, into the world of competitive team tennis, many of us for the first time.
There were 8 total teams in our flight -- teams from other clubs in the Dallas area. We traveled to their clubs, they traveled to our clubs. And somewhere along the way, we became a darn good tennis team. The season just ended, and we ended up 3rd in our flight -- behind a Royal Oaks team that was completely undefeated and a Lifetime Fitness team that was a former City Championship team. For our inagural year, we kicked some serious butt! Our pros were even surprised that we did as well as we did.
So on a night a few weeks ago, we gathered as many of us as we could to toast our season and toast each other, the T-BAR GIRLS, which is what I always called us in e-mails to the team, and has somewhere along the way stuck. So here we are, the T-Bar girls.
Stacey and Melissa
Sabrina (who also happens to be my neighbor) and me!!!
Susan (our strongest player!!) and Sabrina
Cheryl, Rini and Donna
Nora and Cheryl (they made a darn good doubles team)
one of our pros, Ryan Haley (he's from New Mexico, just like me!!)
hook 'em horns! Susan is a die-hard UT girl!
T-BAR GIRLS RULE!!!
