Greek Agora

So...getting caught up on my blogging this morning.
A few weeks ago, the second grade class at Parish did a unit on Greece.  They were each assigned a Greek God to represent (Lauren was Demeter, goddess of harvest and flowers and wheat) and the culiminating activity was a Greek Agora where each God made a sign advertising a good or service associated with their God, and sold their good or service.

Lauren decided to sell tissue flowers, and worked hard on making 20 of them, designing a poster, and selling them.  She sold them for 5 drachmas each, which was kind of a hefty price tag, relatively speaking....but her flowers sold out!  It was quite a cute idea, the kids all got to buy and sell, and learn about the process in a real hands-on way.

As usual, you could really tell who had heavy parental help and who did it by themselves.....you can probably tell that this is a sticking point with me.  For heavens sakes, let the kids do their own work!  We helped Lauren where she needed it, but it was HER project, after all; and I didn't feel compelled to take it over (like she would have let me even if I tried!).

I was very proud of her.  She did a great job and made a great Demeter.
