Lauren's Monet Puppet

So recently Lauren had to complete her first real homework project -- a biography of someone of her choosing. Loving art as she does, she chose Claude Monet as her subject, read a fairly lengthy biography about him (what she remembers most is that he didn't believe in God and that he had several children -- interesting what sticks), wrote a paragraph about him, and created a puppet in his likeness.

Lauren, of course, wasn't interested in any of my ideas about how to make this puppet. So I followed her around Joann's Fabrics as she chose her materials, then watched over her as she put it all together. It really was something amazing to see, she made arms that moved, one of them holding a quill pen, gave him quite a dapper suit and hat (choosing the buttons was a big deal), and a mane of curly hair and a beard.

What was obvious is that other kids had lots of help, which is fine -- but Lauren's was awesome AND it was all hers. I loved watching the whole thing unfold. This girl is going to sink or swim all on her own. I LOVE IT.

Also, for good measure, I attached a photo that I took of her class. If you click on it to enlarge it, you can see how much she looks like my Mom here. Every now and then, I totally see it.

At Last!!! I've been in withdrawl. I've missed your blog and was sooo excited this morning when I was able to catch up on your last few weeks. It was well worth the wait. Love you guys, and awesome job on all of your accomplishments.

|'ve always said. She will make a great adult! What a clever puppet. I noticed in the picture Lauren's summary is a bit longer than the other two shown. No shortage for words with this one either. She rocks!

and yes, Asher decided to wake up at 5 AM this morning. He has a cold. Well, at least we were not traveling yesterday with him. Matt was delayed about 3 hours with all the weather in Dallas. And, Mely is having surgery this week so I hope these colds only last a few days. Today is day 3 and his nose is still running like crazy!

She looks like YOU did at this age!
I love her puppet and I LOVE,LOVE that she wanted to do her own. I get tired of parents whose pride won't let their kids do their own projects. You're a great Mommy! :)
