The Year of Awesome Teachers

So at Parish (and perhaps everywhere), much is made of "transitional years."  The years when there is a significant shift in process and expectation -- and first grade is a transitional year.  For Lauren, her first grade year was indeed transitional.  My daughter who so easily adjusts had a hard time adjusting.  Some of that was her very old school teacher, but the shift from the "fun" of kindergarten to the "work" of first grade was hard on her.

So for Jon Owen, I have been nervous.  Because he is so hard on himself, because transitioning is not his strong suit, and because I knew he would need a special teacher to get him there.  So I crossed my fingers and hoped that he would get my favorite first grade teacher, Susan Hood.  And there it was, posted on the windows at Back to School Day....
MRS. HOOD!!!  Soft, supportive, caring, and wonderful -- I didnt think it could get any better....and then....
I saw Lauren's teacher......MS. MAKINS!

Jennifer Makins is relatively new to Parish, coming first from Good Shepherd and then some time at NASA, where she was in charge of children's educational programs, aiming to inspire the next generation of scientists.  She already has the reputation as "the" teacher to have in third grade -- especially for those particularly bright kids.

So I am thrilled with the kids teachers.  They are thrilled with their teachers.  And even though they are both in trasitional years, I have every confidence that their teachers will get them through with flying colors.
